Palestine is a region in the
Middle East between the Mediterranean and the Jordan River. The name "Palestine" was used by ancient Greek writers, and then used for the Roman province of Syria palaestina, Prima palaestina Eastern Roman province and the province of the Umayyad and Abbasid Jund Filastin. The area is also known as the Land of
Israel, the Holy Land, South Levant, Cisjordan, and is historically known by other names such as Canaan, South Syria and kingdom of Jerusalem.
